Ezéchiel du Mas, Comte de Mélac was born in France in 1630. Mélac is a gaunt man with an upright, arrogant posture. His manners are poor, although he is intelligent, determined and reliable. Mélac speaks German very well, as he was governor of Schleiden for 8 years before being promoted to the Rhine army. At the time of the story he is the Brigadier General and Commander of Esslingen.
